Power for a Purpose: Part 2 - Strength Through Weakness

This Sunday, Tom Sherman brings us the talk in the latest of our EBC Online services. Once you have watched the video, we encourage you to reflect on the bible text and join us in the prayer that follows below.

Readings:

Acts chapter 1 verses 12 - 14 (The Message)

So they left the mountain called Olives and returned to Jerusalem. It was a little over half a mile. They went to the upper room they had been using as a meeting place: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James, son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas, son of James.
They agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women included. Also Jesus’ mother, Mary, and his brothers.

2 Corinthians chapter 4 verse 7

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Acts chapter 6 verses 2 and 3

“It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them

Prayer & Reflection

God, I thank you that You are a God of the broken, that we don’t have to be perfect for You to work through us.
I pray we stop putting on these expectations of us having to be perfect; to fix ourselves before we can work for You because You want us just as we are.
I pray that we learn really that we are enough for You to work through us.
Amen.

Questions to Consider

1. Why do you think God so consistently chooses the seemingly weaker people to build His kingdom?
2. What would you say is one of your weaknesses, a barrier that you can’t overcome and that you feel stops God from using you?
3. Can you recall a time when you have stepped out, in weakness and vulnerability, because you thought God had spoken? What happened?
4. If we wait until we are ‘sorted’ we will be waiting forever. In what simple practical way would you like to begin to step out this week?

I am New

Welcome from all of us at Easthampstead Baptist Church!

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about us. As you explore our website, we hope that you catch a broader glimpse of what EBC is all about. It's about people - people just like you - who want to embark on a journey to discover more of God and his will for our lives.

What should I expect on a Sunday Morning?

Sometimes going to a church for the first time can be a little daunting. I promise we won't bite! To help ease any uncertainties below are the answers to some common questions people have before attending a Sunday morning.

What do I have to wear?
We are a 'come as you are' sort of people and have no formal dress-code for our Sunday services.
We can assure you that we don't have bouncers on the door vetting your attire!
If you are still not sure, feel free to check out our services on YouTube to have an idea.

What time do I need to be there?
At the moment we have one Sunday morning service which starts at 10.00am
.
On the 4th Sunday of the month we run our All-sorts service which starts at 10:00am.

Check out our other services below!

We would recommend you turn up 10 minutes before the service starts so you have a chance to say hi!
If you have children that need signing in to the children and youth work, they need to be signed in from 10:50am.

Parking
There is plenty of parking both out the front and at the back of the building. Just follow the signs!

How safe is my child in your care?
We run separate children and youth work during our 10:00am service, which is run by a group of volunteers who have all been DBS checked.

Children ages 11 and under must be signed in and out by their parent/carer. The youth can sign themselves in and out.
