10: Part 1 - 'The One and Only'

This Sunday, Rob Lea brings us the talk in the latest of our EBC Online services. Once you have watched the video, we encourage you to reflect on the bible text and join us in the prayer that follows below.

Readings:

Exodus chapter 20 verses 1 - 3

‘And God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.’

Prayer & Reflection

Lord we recognise you as the one and only creator of all things large and small. Your word tells us that you know us personally; that you knew us before we were born and you even know every hair on our head, and for this we give you all praise and thanks.
We know that the when you created the world it was perfect, but now it is not as it should be, and for our part in this corruption please forgive us.

Lord God we pray that today, and in the weeks to come, by the power of your Holy Spirit, you will strengthen our resolve to realign our attitudes and behaviours to conform to your commands.
We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord,
AMEN.

Questions to Consider

1. Do you agree that fundamentally humans have not really changed in the past 4000 years? If you do agree, in what way are we similar to our distant ancestors. If you don’t agree, in what specific and inherent ways have we changed?
2. Were you surprised at the examples of the deterioration of our culture over the past 60 years or so? Can you think of other areas where society seems to have regressed?
3. Do you think we have become a more tolerant society or less tolerant? Perhaps you could give examples of both more tolerance and less tolerance?
4. Are you able to clearly express who God is? Is your understanding of God complete, and if not, why not?
5. In his book, The Ten Commandments, J.John claims that the 10 Commandments are not obsolete but absolute. What do you think that J.John meant by that assertion?
Do you agree with it? If not, why not?

I am New

Welcome from all of us at Easthampstead Baptist Church!

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about us. As you explore our website, we hope that you catch a broader glimpse of what EBC is all about. It's about people - people just like you - who want to embark on a journey to discover more of God and his will for our lives.

What should I expect on a Sunday Morning?

Sometimes going to a church for the first time can be a little daunting. I promise we won't bite! To help ease any uncertainties below are the answers to some common questions people have before attending a Sunday morning.

What do I have to wear?
We are a 'come as you are' sort of people and have no formal dress-code for our Sunday services.
We can assure you that we don't have bouncers on the door vetting your attire!
If you are still not sure, feel free to check out our services on YouTube to have an idea.

What time do I need to be there?
At the moment we have one Sunday morning service which starts at 10.00am
.
On the 4th Sunday of the month we run our All-sorts service which starts at 10:00am.

Check out our other services below!

We would recommend you turn up 10 minutes before the service starts so you have a chance to say hi!
If you have children that need signing in to the children and youth work, they need to be signed in from 10:50am.

Parking
There is plenty of parking both out the front and at the back of the building. Just follow the signs!

How safe is my child in your care?
We run separate children and youth work during our 10:00am service, which is run by a group of volunteers who have all been DBS checked.

Children ages 11 and under must be signed in and out by their parent/carer. The youth can sign themselves in and out.
