Readings:

Exodus chapter 20 verses 4 - 6

‘You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.’

Prayer & Reflection

God,
I thank you that You can and will break the chains that hold us to these altars.
I thank you that You are there supporting us as we try to work our lives further for Your glory; towards You Lord.
I pray we get the strength to open up about what we’re struggling with to the people around us - that we don’t burden this upon ourselves; that we know there are people here in church that love us unconditionally for who we are and want to see us flourish.
AMEN

Questions to Consider

1. What can you identify in your life as an altar you sacrifice upon instead of giving your all to God?
2. Who do you know at church that you can talk to about what you’re struggling with? What’s holding you back?
3. What one thing can you change in your life to help reach your God-given potential?
4. Do you struggle to wrap your head around the idea of blessing a thousand generations if you do the right thing now? Why?

Supplementary question from Tom – Who’s your favourite historical figure and why?
