In our July series, we explore the book of psalms and discover how valuable this book – the songbook of ancient Israel – still is for us today. We will look together at some of the different categories of psalms as the series progresses, and see how the psalms express all of human feeling and emotion. The psalms are in essence prayers – these are songs and poems not just pouring out our hearts to just anyone, but to God Himself!
Sunday 7th July: ‘Hymns of Praise’ – 9.30am and 11.00am.
Ever read a songbook or a collection of poems? What kinds of poems or songs draw you in the most, and why? In part one of our series, we explore exactly what the book of psalms is called in the original Hebrew, and ask what exactly are the psalms anyway?
Sunday 14th July: ‘Songs of Thanksgiving’ – 9.30am and 11.00am.
If someone does something nice for you, you’d want to thank them, right? What if they were really, really nice to you… might you thank them with a song or a poem? In part two of our series, we’ll be thinking about the many reasons we have to say ‘thank you’ to God and looking at the way the psalmists expressed their own ‘attitude of gratitude’.
Sunday 21st July: ‘Cries of Lament’ – 9.30am and 11.00am
The book of psalms has several different kinds of psalms but the most popular type of psalms is the psalm of lament. Whether it’s a personal matter or a communal one, crying out to God as we grieve, weep or sorrow over something or someone is the natural and healthy thing to do. Lament features heavily in the psalms and as we’ll discover, this is something that can help us through our own times of darkness, wrestling and struggle.
Sunday 28th July: ‘Talking with God’ – 10.00am All-sorts service (No Livestream)
Join us for our All-sorts service as we all get together around tables to explore ways that we can use the psalms to understand how we can talk to God too!
